GLOCAL Conference on Mediterranean and European Linguistic Anthropology (COMELA) 2021

July 21-24, 2021

The GLOCAL Conference on Mediterranean and European Linguistic Anthropology 2021

(SCOPUS / ISI (AHCI / SSCI / CPCI) indexed)

Following the worldwide growth of The GLOCAL, The Global Council on Anthropological Linguistics, and the patent success of the previous several GLOCAL COMELA Conferences, we announce The GLOCAL COMELA 2021, The Conference on Mediterranean and European Linguistic Anthropology 2021. (https://comela2021.uoa.gr/)

Main Hosts - National and Kapodistrian University of Athens – School of Philosophy and SOAS, University of London

CoHosts - Democritus University of Thrace, University of Patras, University of The Aegean, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

Purpose and Structure - On the eve of the 200th anniversary of Greece's independence, over 450 scholars globally will gather to present papers and to engage in progressive discussion on the Linguistic Anthropology, Language and Society, Sociolinguistics, and related fields of The Mediterranean and Europe. The GLOCAL COMELA 2021 is fully Non-Profit, assisting scholars in impeded economic positions, who require funding to access the COMELA Conference, and who display strong ability in their work. GLOCAL COMELA proceedings are SCOPUS / ISI (AHCI / SSCI / CPCi) indexed and contribute to ranked and cited publications for all those accepted to present. The GLOCAL COMELA 2021 will publish papers in Top Tier Journal Special Issues.

Location - National and Kapodistrian University of Athens - School of Philosophy, Greece

Date - July 21-24, 2021

Theme - The GLOCAL COMELA 2021 theme, “Bounded languages… Unbounded”, "Περιορισμένες Γλώσσες  … Απεριόριστες," encapsulates the ongoing struggle throughout Mediterranean and European regions. As the continuous tension between demarcation, and the concurrent legitimization, of languages, language ideologies, and language identities, enters an era where new modes of interactivity require language communities to take on roles superordinate to the past, flexible citizenship now operates within, and not only across, language communities, to unbind languages, and to create new boundaries, unlike those seen throughout history. The GLOCAL COMELA 2021 invites work which addresses the shifting boundedness of Language Communities of the Mediterranean and Europe. Papers and posters should acknowledge and describe processes of language shape, change, and ideology, pertinent to social, cultural, political histories, and futures of Mediterranean and European regions, and by those working in Mediterranean and European regions.
